Bluebonnet Reading
Bluebonnet reading is well underway. I already have several students who have read all or most of the books for 2010-2011. Every 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grader should have their folder by now. If the folder is lost, the replacement cost is $1.00 for 3rd-5th grade and $2.00 for 6th grade. Please encourage your students to put their review pages in their folder before turning them in. Pieces of paper are too easy to misplace. All deadlines are stated on the first page in the bluebonnet folder and below.
Bluebonnet Deadlines
Reading 5 to Decide: Jan 24, 2011 (5 books read, reviewed and turned in) Voting will occur the afternoon of Jan. 26th
Reading 10 to earn a Pizza Party : March 21,2011 (10 books read, reviewed and turned in) Pizza Parties will occur during the week of March 28. This applies to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Any student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade who reads and reviews all 20 books by March 21st will be rewarded for their accomplishment!!!
Reading 20 to earn a Pizza Party (6th grade): April 25, 2011 (All 20 books read, reviewed, and turned in by this date) Pizza party will be held after the 26th of April. If all 20 books are read and reviewed by January 24th, 6th grade students will be rewarded for that accomplishment!!!

Texas Book Festival
Last year, some of our Bryker Woods Panthers went with me to the Texas Book Festival on Saturday Oct. 31st. We had a great time and enjoyed listening to Rick Riordan and Peter Lerangis talk about the 39 Clues Series. The best part of the day was hearing Jon Scieska and Mac Barnett introduced the 2010-2011 Bluebonnet List.
This years festival is scheduled for October 16-17. It will be held downtown at the State Capital building. For more information, check out the website at texasbookfestival.org. Authors of note include: Chris Barton (Shark VS Train), David Wiesner (Art & Max), Keith Graves (Chicken Big), Scott Westerfeld (Behemoth), and Meg Cabot (Blast from the Past).
